Kiwifruit
From 2012, Aozora will have access to a new, improved variety of Gold Kiwifruit.
Aozora’s parent company (J M Bostock Ltd) holds a PVR for a gold variety of kiwi we are grafting and planting in Chile from September 2009. We believe our variety is superior in size, yield, shape and sweetness – and it is harvested earlier than gold varieties planted in New Zealand. Our first export crop out of New Zealand will be available in the 2012 season, closely followed by Chile in 2013.
Growing our Gold in Chile has a number of benefits for export – in particular much lower development and setup costs. Chile also has Free Trade Agreements in place with Japan and Korea – which gives it significant tariff cost advantages over New Zealand fruit.
We plan to have an export volume of around 3,000,000 trays of our Gold by the 2014 season. We will announce details of the brand name and design concept once we have secured trademarks in our target markets.
